Ledsreact Pro
Geen sprint, maar eerder een goed voorbereide marathon. Daar kan je dit project in sporttermen wel mee vergelijken. Maar hoe is het allemaal begonnen? Koen Vercauteren, founder van Ledsreact, kwam initieel bij Studio Dott aankloppen met sporttechnisch kapitaal, een ruw idee van ‘zijn’ interactieve kegel en tonnen enthousiasme om dat naar de markt te brengen. Met die kegel wou hij sporters helpen om al spelenderwijs hun reactiesnelheid te trainen. Dat enthousiasme werkte aanstekelijk en ook wij zetten onze schouders onder zijn verhaal om er een succes van te maken. We tekenden mee aan de roadmap, boden ondersteuning bij het vinden van funding en werden de draaischijf die de verschillende disciplines (zowel binnen- als buitenhuis) samenbracht om ‘the next steps’ in die roadmap te realiseren, van definitie tot detailontwerp.

In the long run
Bij de start keken we niet enkel naar het prototype, maar ook daar voorbij. Naar de toekomst. Naar het potentieel van Ledsreact. En hoe we dat konden bereiken. Samen schreven we het eerste 'mission statement' dat de nodige zuurstof gaf aan Ledsreact’s ambitie:
“It is our mission to enable sport trainers to focus on and improve their core competence: coaching their players.”
De grote afwezige daarin is de slimme kegel. Want die zagen we van meet af aan als een middel, en niet als hoofdrolspeler. Die rol legden we weg voor een online platform, waar we de data van allerhande slimme producten wilden koppelen aan oefeningen om zo onderbouwde trainingssuggesties te doen.

Haalbare start
Maar je moet leren stappen, voordat je lopen kan. Stap 1: de interactieve kegel.
De Ledsreact Basic werd het minimum viable product waarmee we de markt konden aftasten. De interactieve kegel veroverde zijn plaats tijdens de trainingen door spelenderwijs een onvoorspelbaar element in de oefeningen te brengen.
De maakbaarheid werd aangetoond, de vraag werd bevestigd, en investeerders raakten overtuigd. Strategisch was dit eenvoudige model dus de perfecte springplank voor zijn professionele opvolger: de Ledsreact Pro.
Big (on) data
Met een voet stevig tussen de deur was het tijd om onze blik op de noden in de markt haarscherp te krijgen. Research, interviews, observaties, ... Onze ontwerpers gingen op bezoek bij sportkinesisten en trainers om hen uitvoerig te bevragen. Daaruit bleek dat er inderdaad nood was aan data, en ook inzicht in die data. Om zo een beeld te krijgen op de sterktes en zwaktes van sporters en die, wederom op basis van de data, bij te sturen. En dat namen we ter harte.
Ledsreact Pro evolueerde zo tot een smart agility coach, bestaande uit 3 onderdelen: een slimme kegel, een mobiele app en een dataplatform. Die mix van fysieke en digitale producten was essentieel om data te capteren, aggregeren en inzichtelijk te verwerken. Om zo’n drievuldigheid op elkaar af te stemmen brachten we vanaf dag 1 alle verschillende skills ter zake rond de tafel. Naast die van product en digital design (frontend) nam Studio Dott ook de handschoen op van algemene project lead en CTO.
Op de radar
De kegel is er niet enkel om je training te begeleiden, maar ook om data te capteren. Véél data, zoals gevraagd. Samen met ENT Studios zorgden we ervoor dat de Pro kegel sporters heel nauwkeurig kan detecteren met behulp van radartechnologie. De kegel registreert waar de atleten zijn, hoe ze bewegen, hoe snel ze reageren, hun snelheid, hun versnelling en vertraging.
Waarom nu net radartechnologie? We onderzochten eerst welke data je nodig hebt om 'agility' op een juiste manier in beeld te brengen. Uit de daaropvolgende zoektocht naar de juiste tech hiervoor, kwamen wij uit bij - jawel, je raadt het al - radars.
Ready when you are
Via de app heb je toegang tot een uitgebreide bibliotheek van oefeningen en gestandaardiseerde testen. Je training tot in de puntjes voorbereiden, automatiseren of bijsturen on the go, ... het kan allemaal. De meest belangrijke data krijg je instant in de palm van je hand. En dat alles zonder frictie, you’re welcome.
Meten is zilver, inzicht is goud
Het platform geeft een gedetailleerd beeld van de trainingsdata. Hier volg je evoluties op en verwerf je inzichten om op een onderbouwde manier de training bij te sturen. Wij beten ons vast in het helder visualiseren van data (véél data) en zorgden voor een intuïtieve flow doorheen de verschillende schermen van het dashboard.
Merkbaar sterk
Een sterke visuele identiteit, dat ontbrak er nog aan. Of liever, moest nog geformaliseerd worden. Want die komt in een project als dit systematisch naar boven drijven. De kegel kreeg direct al een herkenbare styling waarmee die zich duidelijk onderscheidt van concurrerende producten. Noem het één van de 'perks' van een cross-disciplinaire studio.
Maar je tuimelt natuurlijk niet per ongeluk over een logo met bijpassende lettertypes, beeldtaal en kleurenpalet. Onze brand designers bogen zich vakkundig over dit aspect van het project en brachten zo alles samen tot een krachtig geheel.
